Scroll further down the page to read about my Why, Part Two, to see how you can join me for a round of golf on my journey and to read comments from the many generous donors.
Meet my hero. His name is Gavin and he is my son.
Ten years ago, he was a kind, compassionate, silly four-year old boy who hadn't been feeling well for a few weeks.
Overnight, he became a resilient, responsible, mature-beyond-his years four-year-old boy who had been diagnosed with a life-altering disease.
Gavin has type 1 diabetes.
When his blood sugar is too high, he is in danger. When his blood sugar is too low, he is in danger. He is the strongest person I know and I am proud of him beyond words.
But he is not alone
Over 1.25 million Americans are currently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and experts expect that number to quadruple by 2050.
By supporting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) with a tax-deductible gift today, you're helping fund life-changing breakthroughs to make living with type 1 diabetes safer and healthier, until there is a cure.
100% OF YOUR DONATION THROUGH THIS LINK WILL BE DIRECTED TO JDRF!
Thank you for your support!
My heart couldn't be more full for you, for your son and for all the families made stronger because of you!
If my father (a PGA pro) was alive he would be right with you as his granddaughter has juvenile diabetes and his wife had type 2. In all of their honor I will pray for a cure and your success!
Pete, I'm donating today in honor of my Dad, who passed away exactly 15 years ago today. He loved golf and would probably want to take this trip with you! I'm also donating (Part II) for my nephew, who suffers from diabetes, juvenile onset. Good luck!
Thanks for all you are doing, Pete, from two parents of a fifteen-year-old with T1D to another.
What a great way to honor your father and celebrate with your son! Enjoy your golf adventure!
We are friends of Jared Wiley's parents. Carrie forwarded your story to me because our daughter also has Type 1. Blessings to you, your son, and your endeavors!

Fore you, your family, and all you do. What an amazing thing to do!
Great idea!! I started following you from New Mexico--my dad is staying with me know--I cherish time with him more now after i started following your quest...Thanks!
I come from a golfing family, introduced to the game by my father. My brother was diagnosed at age 29 with type 1 diabetes. I'm 60 years old and was diagnosed with type 1 about 2 years ago. I can't imagine the struggle and responsibility it takes for a 4-year-old to deal with this disease.
Pete - what a great way to honor your father! Looks like you are enjoying every minute of it. Stay strong!
Love what you are doing. You are honoring your father & son both. Best wishes as you continue
Pete - you left a note on my car at WHCC and I chatted with your wife while playing there May 31 (I'm the guy with the CURE T1D license plate). My daughter was diagnosed in 2008 at the age of seven. On behalf of the entire T1D community, thank you!
What an amazing adventure for a great cause!
Good luck on your journey!
Pete! Good luck! Every step of the way! Be safe! Enjoy every minute!
